Collection: Shopify SEO Audit

A Shopify SEO audit needs to know Shopify. Generic audits miss the platform-specific issues — duplicate collection paths, default canonical quirks, app conflicts, theme bloat. We have run Shopify stores since 2014 and built our audit around what actually breaks Shopify rankings.

Shopify SEO Audit That Knows Your Theme, Your Apps, and Your Catalogue

Most Shopify SEO audits read like generic ecommerce audits with the word 'Shopify' added in. They run a Screaming Frog crawl, list 200 issues, and miss the things that actually matter on the platform — which apps are fighting each other for schema control, which theme components are quietly doubling your page weight, which collection paths are being indexed twice because of Shopify's default URL structure.

We do this differently. Our Shopify SEO audit was built for the platform. We have audited hundreds of Shopify stores across florist, jewellery, fashion, beauty and supplement verticals. We know where the wins hide.

This collection brings together every BC audit option, from the $19 starter checklist to fully done-for-you audits delivered as a single Google Sheet plus a Loom walkthrough.

What a Shopify SEO Audit Should Cover

Six sections in every proper Shopify SEO audit.

Foundation health: site speed against Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering, robots.txt, sitemap accuracy, canonical configuration across collection and product pages.

Theme audit: which Shopify theme is in use, how much CSS and JavaScript ships unused, which sections render slowly, whether the theme outputs proper schema or not.

App audit: which Shopify apps are installed, which ones inject conflicting schema, which ones add page weight without value, which ones are abandoned.

On-page structure: heading hierarchy on collection and product pages, word count on collection intros, product description originality, meta data completeness across the catalogue.

Schema markup health: product, breadcrumb, FAQ, organisation and review schema validation. Most Shopify themes ship with partial schema and miss the most valuable types.

Internal linking: collection-to-collection link strength, product-to-collection patterns, blog-to-collection clusters, anchor text variation, orphan page detection.

The output is a single Google Sheet with every issue logged, scored by impact and effort, and prioritised into a 90-day work plan.

The Shopify-Specific Issues Generic Audits Miss

Five issues only a Shopify-fluent auditor catches.

Duplicate collection paths. Shopify by default makes the same product available at multiple URLs (/collections/all/products/x and /collections/best-sellers/products/x and /products/x). Without canonical configuration, Google indexes all three and dilutes ranking signal across the duplicates.

Theme bloat from previous installations. Many Shopify stores have lived through two or three theme migrations, leaving orphaned CSS, JavaScript and Liquid snippets in the live theme. Page weight stays high; nobody knows why.

App schema conflicts. Apps like Judge.me, Loox, Stamped.io, and Shopify's own product page customisers each inject their own schema. Two apps adding product schema to the same page creates validation errors that break rich results.

Metafield underuse. Shopify metafields are powerful for adding GEO citation, custom schema, and structured data without touching theme code. Most stores have not configured metafields at all, missing the cleanest way to enrich pages for SEO and AI search.

Default canonical confusion. Shopify sometimes sets canonical tags to the parent collection rather than the specific product page, particularly when products live in multiple collections. The fix is theme-level but few audits catch it.

Our Collection-First SEO System at $47 walks through several of these fixes step by step.

The 25-Point Shopify SEO Audit We Run

Every BC done-for-you Shopify SEO audit covers twenty-five checkpoints. Five points per section across the six sections listed above (six sections × four to five checkpoints averaging twenty-five total). The audit takes our team five to seven business days from kickoff to delivery.

Each checkpoint is scored on impact (how much it could lift rankings if fixed) and effort (how many hours it would take). The output sorts checkpoints by impact-to-effort ratio so you know what to fix first.

What You Get Back

A done-for-you BC Shopify SEO audit delivers four artefacts.

A Google Sheet with every checkpoint logged, scored, and prioritised into a 30-60-90-day work plan.

A Loom video walkthrough explaining what we found, why it matters, and what to fix first.

A schema validation report showing every page template's current schema state and what needs to be added.

A list of recommended next steps including which BC products or monthly plans would deliver the fixes if you want done-for-you implementation rather than self-led.

DIY, Guided or Done-for-You

What is a Shopify SEO audit?

A Shopify SEO audit is a structured review of a Shopify store's organic search performance and the platform-specific factors affecting it. It covers theme code, app stack, schema markup, collection and product page structure, internal linking, technical health and content gaps. A good Shopify audit identifies what is broken, what is underused, and what to fix in what order.

How much does a Shopify SEO audit cost?

A self-led entry path starts at $19 with the Calm SEO Starter Kit. The Collection-First SEO System at $47 is the deeper guided playbook. Done-for-you BC audits are priced on the relevant product page on bloomingcheckout.com.

How long does a Shopify SEO audit take?

A done-for-you BC Shopify SEO audit takes five to seven business days. The work involves a Screaming Frog crawl, manual review of every collection and product template, schema validation, theme and app inspection, content gap analysis against the top three competitors, and the build of the prioritised work plan. We then walk you through the plan on a Loom.

What does a Shopify SEO audit include?

A complete Shopify SEO audit covers foundation health (site speed, mobile, sitemaps, canonicals), theme audit, app audit, on-page structure (collection and product pages), schema markup validation, and internal linking analysis. The output is a prioritised 30-60-90-day work plan with each issue scored by impact and effort.

How often should I audit my Shopify store?

A full audit annually is enough for most stores. Stores undergoing major changes — a theme migration, an app stack overhaul, a major product line launch — should audit before and after. Stores on a Monthly SEO Plan get rolling audit work as part of the engagement, so a separate annual audit is not needed.

Can I audit my Shopify store myself?

Yes if you have the time. The Calm SEO Starter Kit and the Collection-First SEO System were built for owners who want to. Most owners eventually move to a paid audit because the cost of doing it yourself (in hours and missed issues) usually exceeds the cost of having BC do it.
